How Video is Helpful for Your BusinessPosted by: Chad Johnstone on Feb 07, 2009 |
Video communicates precisely what or who you’re targeting through the interview or narrative process. Interviews are great because you connect with the actual person you want information from, but they can be lengthy. Editing takes care of that. Also, narrative is a great addition to interviews because it can encapsulate thoughts and be more concise than an interview.
Video is simply another tool in your toolbox or marketing. It’s more of an emotional tool. It can open hearts and at the same time open wallets. It’s often not as descriptive as a paper brochure or website, but it truly targets the main reasons people want your product / service / to support your organization. Plus it makes them laugh, cry, nod in agreement, etc.
The same video can be tailored for different audiences with just a few changes. Want to train? Have a descriptive 30 minute video on the assembly of your product for your employees on DVD, and use some of the same footage in a 2-minute promotional tool on your website.
Costs for full production videos used to be $2500 per finished minute. With the technology becoming more accessible and the costs of equipment becoming less expensive, costs are coming in anywhere from $100 to $1500 per finished minute. This based on some videos like training pieces or web seminars, which can be as low as $100 per finished minute on up to a full production at $1500 per finished minute.
Full production could consist of several meetings, pre-interviews, writing, videotaping on site with lights, crew and mics. Editing is more than putting pieces together as it takes into consideration input to the computer, editing out content, adding graphics and music, delivery for DVD or the web – even the phone. A professional can take care of that either on his/her own or with a crew of people. Depends on how fast you want the video to be made and your budget.
With the ease of producing and placing videos on your company’s website, you can end up having your own video channel – just like YouTube.
DVD duplication allows the use of the video to be played both in computers and on DVD players. It also insures a higher quality delivery of your product.
The penetration of higher bandwidth through cable, DSL and satellite allows for easy streaming and downloading of video content than ever before.
